A social story to help children know what visiting a psychologist is like, created for ABLE Developmental Clinic Inc. Read it together on a screen or print it; the words on each page are written out again below the pictures.

Going to see a psychologist. A psychologist is a person who plays with kids, finds out how their brains work, and tries to help them with their problems. This is a picture of the building where I will see a psychologist.
I will come to see the psychologist with my family members, such as my mom or dad. The psychologist has a room where we may wait until it's our turn to see them. This is a picture of the psychologist's waiting room.
The psychologist will have activities to do with me to learn about my brain. They may ask me questions. I can but don't have to talk to the psychologist, and that's ok. These are pictures of the psychologist's office.
I can see the psychologist and feel nervous, but I am safe with them. This is a picture of the psychologist I will see; her name is Juliane. The psychologist has fidget tools, games, and activities to help my brain regulate and feel safe. These pictures are of some of the psychologist's fidget tools.
I can go to see the psychologist and have fun. This is a picture of a child who is having fun. I can go to see the psychologist and learn more about how my brain works and feel better. This is a picture of a child who has learned about his brain.
